From the producers of MelenaA Cultural & Musical Journey into my Afro Cuban Roots:

This production is based on the true life story of Melena, a professional percussionist born in Havana Cuba, and her search for her family history through her passion for the music of her country.  It is her self discovery and successful journey through the music of her culture, and the obstacles she overcame through her journey because of her intense passion to learn as much as she could about her native country, simply because of her drive to be the best at her chosen profession as she could be, an Afro Cuban percussionist, one of the few Latina percussionists in an industry dominated by male percussionists.
Melena is not only a professional percussionist, and educator of Afro Cuban music, but also a trained actor who has had the opportunity to appear in various TV and video productions while based in Los Angeles, California. She now resides in Prince George, Virginia and has been working diligently in sharing her story, through a theatrical and musical performance. In December 2011, the screenplay, co-written by Melena and Jimmy Castro,  was selected from twelve entries by the Sycamore Rouge Theater in Petersburg, Virginia for their Six Blocks Series, and will be presented to the public on Thursday April 12,2012, Friday April 13, 2012, and Saturday April 14, 2012.
We are certain that this production will be successful after being presented at the Sycamore Rouge Theater in April 2012, and look forward to it's future presentation in Los Angeles, California.
